[ENCI-l] CGS Student Competition

Good morning,

I am very pleased to announce the 2021 Canadian Geotechnical Society Student Competition, in conjunction with the 74th Canadian Geotechnical Conference in Niagara Falls (https://www.geoniagara2021.ca/).

Attached you will find pdf versions (English and French) of the poster describing the competitions, including:

1.     Graduate Student Presentation Competition (in person or web conferencing)

1st Place Award $1,250;

2nd Place Award $750

2.     Undergraduate Individual Report Competition

1st Place Award $1000;

2nd Place Award $750

3.     Undergraduate Group Report Competition

1st Place Award $700 per individual (maximum of $2,800 for groups of more than 4 students);

2nd Place Award $400 per individual (maximum of $1,600 for groups of more than 4 students)

You will also find attached an electronic copy of the CGS Student Competition Cover Page that must accompany the student competition entries.

At this time I am asking you to advertise the competition by announcing the competition to your undergraduate and graduate students and by placing the poster around your department if students are present on campus. I also ask you to share this information with colleagues within your department. Please also bring to my attention anyone missing from my mailing list.

Submissions are due May 15, 2021. I will send a reminder prior to the due date.

Also note that I am soliciting competition judges at this time as well. If you are interested in supporting in this capacity, please do not hesitate to contact me.

C’est avec grand plaisir que j’annonce l’édition 2021 du concours étudiant de la Société canadienne de géotechnique. Cette compétition est organisée en marge de la 74e Conférence canadienne de géotechnique à Niagara Falls (https://fr.geoniagara2021.ca/).

Vous trouverez en pièces jointes les versions française et anglaise de l’affiche qui décrit les trois volets de la compétition :

1.     Concours de présentation pour les étudiants aux cycles supérieurs (en personne ou en vidéoconférence)

1re place : 1 250 $

2e place : 750 $

2.     Prix pour le meilleur rapport individuel pour les étudiants au premier cycle

1re place : 1 000 $

3.     Prix pour le meilleur rapport en équipe pour les étudiants au premier cycle

1re place : 700 $ par étudiant (maximum 2 800 $ pour les équipes de plus de 4 étudiants)

2e place : 400 $ par étudiant (maximum 1 600 $ pour les équipes de plus de 4 étudiants)

Vous trouverez aussi en pièce jointe la page titre qui doit accompagner chaque candidature pour les trois volets de la compétition.

Pour l’instant, je vous demande d’annoncer la compétition en partageant l’annonce avec vos étudiants au premier cycle et aux cycles supérieurs. Je vous demande aussi de partager cette information avec les collègues de votre département. Vous pouvez aussi placer les affiches dans votre département si des étudiants sont présents à l’université. N’hésitez pas à m’écrire si j’ai oublié quelqu’un dans ma liste d’envoi.

La date limite pour soumettre une candidature est le 15 mai 2021. Je vais envoyer un rappel d’ici la date limite.

Je suis aussi à la recherche de membres du jury pour évaluer les candidatures. N’hésitez pas à me contacter si vous êtes intéressé à participer au jury ou si vous avez des questions.
