Hello Fellow Engineers,

As you may be aware, the SU elections are upon us. A few of the
candidates wanted to let you know why they deserve your vote:

Dalmy Baez : SU President & Alex Judd : VP OpFi

Please consider voting Dalmy Baez for President and Alex Judd for VP
Operations and Finance. We both have ample Student's Union and clubs
experience and feel we have a lot to offer the students of the University
of Calgary. We feel engineering students have taken the right approach to
promoting culture on this campus by participating in activities such as
P.O.E.T.S, Inter-club Improv night and ENGG week (the movies you produced
were hilarious by the way).

Although we have our own unique ideas, we both strongly emphasize a
commitment to working with clubs in our platforms and feel that our
experiences and vision for the SU really complement one another. This is
why we have decided to work together on our campaigns. As the ESS is the
largest club on campus we feel that our approach to improving the
relationship between the SU and clubs next year will be beneficial for
Engineering Students. Some of our ideas include:

· Maximizing communication and collaboration with and between
clubs through regular SU/Club mixers

· Fully utilizing Club Survival Seminars and Clubs Week to promote
services such as funding, involvement scholarships and committee
opportunities

· Increasing the consistency and clarity of SU policies to ensure
accountability, forming a better relationship between Conference & Events
and clubs

· Making more effective use of the Student Advisory Council

For more information on how we plan to work with clubs, and our other
goals and qualifications, check out our platforms in this week's Gauntlet
or at www.su.ucalgary.ca under the elections link. You can vote online
on Peoplesoft from February 12-14 (ending at 4:00 pm on the 14th) and it
only takes 5 minutes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail Dalmy at
dabaez at ucalgary.ca or Alex at arjudd at ucalgary.ca.

Best of luck on your midterms!

Bryan Campbell : OpFi Commissioner

This is Bryan Campbell. I'm running for Re-election as an Operations &
Finance Commissioner. Many of you may have seen me (and my bald head) at
the Engg Lonuge opening last week. I'm asking for your vote because all of
my campaign goals can directly benefit Engineering students. Encouraging
club co-ops (like joint events or equipment loans) can help the various
Enginneering club run larger, better events. Promoting SU services, such
as Travel & Conference funding, will benefit you if there is an event
(academic or not) that can improves your studies at the UofC. I also want
to improve the Health & Dental plan, which could see Eye Care being added
to the benefits.
This Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Re-Elect Bryan Campbell for
Operations & Finance commission.

Rob Cooper : OpFi Commissioner
SU Election time is here! I'd like to encourage everyone to vote before
the 4pm deadline on Thursday by going onto their PeopleSoft account, and
clicking the link to vote.
While you're doing that, I'd like to ask you to vote Rob Cooper for
Commissioner, Operations and Finance. I am running on a platform of
accountability and increased communication. The Students' Union is meant
to look out for the needs of students, and I want to make sure that we
are doing a good job of meeting those needs. We need to improve the
communication with students so that they can take advantage of the many
services and benefits offered to them as members. I'm the candidate who
can get this done, so be sure to Vote Cooper!

Luke Valentine : VP Events
Hello voters!
My name is Luke Valentine and I am running for VP Events. My platform
is based on three key ideas: promotion, outreach, and innovation. I
want to work with different groups on campus, like ESS, to create
greater communication between the SU and other groups on campus. I
also want to make Sexual Awareness Week sexier; it's definitely been
un-sexy for the past few years.
Thanks for your time and don't forget to vote Valentine!

Hardeep Sangha : Events Commissioner
Dear Engineering Students,
My name is Hardeep Sangha. I am running for the position of Events
Commmissioner. I have for the past few years run bars around the city and
been involved with UofC clubs and Dinos in fundraising at many levels. I
believe that students, especially engineers, work so hard and a university
education should not only be about books, but also some good memories.
Engineering students show some of the greatest school spirit during engg
week and I hope to use their enthusiasm to create memorable events and
memories for all students.

Kat Lord : Events Commissioner
Hey I'm Kat Lord, running to represent in Events. I've been on this SU
already and that experience will help me tailor SU events for all the kids
kicking on campus. I think we've got a fairly awesome set of events
already, but we could do more to bring together different groups on campus
out to events. We could try to get even more Eng kids out by having a
"Mythbusters" competition, and Eng kids could sign-up to show-off their
skills and get other students out watching and voting for winners, have
some djs spinning some tunes and such. But less specific to your faculty,
I'd really like to see a Wellness Week with free yoga,
eating-fast-and-well-on-a-budget, plus finger-painting, meditation, video
games and free massages, plus much more. Also, I'd like to see live music
at the Den, and keep up the great acts that have passed through the Empty
Space. Alright, there's more but check out my platform if you want more
info. cause I think I've said enough. Kat for Events.

Ciao,
Kat.
