Dear Schulich students,

We are pleased to welcome you back to the Schulich School of Engineering as you continue your undergraduate studies.

Over the last year, we have had numerous discussions with students about homerooms. We heard how important these spaces are for studying and collaborative work. During the summer, we have been busy resetting these rooms to create ideal learning spaces for you and have relocated items not focused on learning to our decompression spaces, where possible.

These Schulich spaces are now called Engineering Collaborative Learning Commons (ECLC) and based on available space, there are two models for spaces:

  *   Model A – a single space available to all department students during opening hours
  *   Model B - includes B1 as a smaller space that is available for students during normal hours and B2 as a larger space that will normally be available to students after 3 p.m, when not scheduled for classes.

The goal for our ECLC spaces and the specific layouts is to promote a positive learning experience for everyone who uses them. It is important that the spaces remain tidy for all students, and that the classroom spaces are left unchanged (no furniture movement) for next-day scheduled courses. The department-specific rooms can be found below:

  *   Biomedical Engineering – ENG 107 (B1) and CCIT 211 (B2)
  *   Chemical and Petroleum Engineering – END 05/05A (B1 under construction and will open when complete) and END 02 (B2)
  *   Civil Engineering – ENE 128 (B2) and ENF 305 (A)
  *   Electrical and Software Engineering – ENA 106 (A)
  *   Energy Engineering – ENA 121 (A)
  *   Geomatics Engineering – ENE 131 (A) and ENF 325 (A)
  *   Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering – ENA 131 (A)
  *   Engineering Physics and Sustainable Systems Engineering – ENB 08 (B2)
  *   Minor Students - ENE 132 (B1)

As a reminder, the Schulich Studio Learning Commons in ICT 216 is available for all engineering students to study and work on group projects. We have also renovated ENC 25 to be a teams and clubs working space. Access to these spaces is through your UCalgary ID card, which will be completed after add/drop dates.

We would like to invite you to an open house at each ECLC from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. This will give you an opportunity to see the spaces and provide feedback. Light refreshments will also be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
