TO ALL ENGG STUDENTS
Fistful of Stocks: Stock Market Challenge
University of Calgary's SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) club is in the
planning stages of a campus-wide stock market challenge. This project has
been entitled Fistful of Stocks and the project's goal are to increase
awareness and an understanding of investment markets. In addition to the
competitive spirit, Fistful of Stocks also has aggressive educational goals.
The entry fee into the Fistful of Stocks event will cost $10 - this will
allow participants to attend all the various events of the competition and
give participants a chance to win prizes. PLEASE SIGN UP IN ESS (ENE 132)
Fistful of Stocks Project
The project has three key components:
1. Stock Market Challenge: A six week competition which will allow
participants to trade stocks on the real stock market with virtual money. A
competition will be set up on <http://www.howthemarketworks.com>
www.howthemarketworks.com that will be password protected. On sign up
participants will be given the password.
2. Education Workshops: Each week of the competition we will host a one
hour workshop with an industry professional. The workshops topics will be:
. Trading on Simulations
. Introduction into investing #1: investment vehicles, investment
terms, risk level
. Introduction into investing #2: How to find good stocks, reading
spreadsheets, resources available, market conditions
. Short selling
. Emerging Markets
. Quantitative Analysis
3. Awareness Activities: In addition to educational events, we will
host a poker night to show how hard it is to gain money from poker and show
the difference between gambling and trading on the stock market. Furthermore
we will have a movie night during the competition where we will show
investment related movies.
