The Junior Fellowship Program in International Development is a
unique opportunity to participate in Engineer’s Without Borders renowned
development training program and contribute directly to the organizations
overseas work. This is a four month placement (May 1 – August 31st
2008), where the volunteers are enthusiastic and committed people, who are
dedicated to reducing extreme poverty worldwide. I would like to invite
anybody who is interested to apply for this exciting and rewarding
position where, for the upcoming term, we will be selecting the most
suitable applicants to participate as Junior Fellows.

The program has been designed to be an introduction to the
complexities of development through both theory and practical fieldwork
components.
It also provides valuable experience and an opportunity to create change not
only for developing communities abroad, but also for people in your
community in Canada.
Participants actively work through EWB’s development curriculum with
guidance from the organization’s National Office; this includes
participating in a week of intensive training in Toronto
prior to departure overseas. The position is strictly voluntary but all
costs relating to training and overseas travel and living are covered as
part of the Fellowship.

In the past, participants in the program have learned from and
contributed to projects to improve rural water and sanitation services,
develop agricultural processing technologies, and improve the agricultural
sector overseas. Placements will be in Ghana,Burkina Faso, Malawi or
Zambia and will be assigned once volunteers have been selected based on
language skills and other aptitudes.

Please send me an e-mail me if you have any questions, and I'll be happy
to answer them. I have been on a JF placement, so I will be able to share
what I know with you. For interested applicants, there will be a Junior
Fellow Coffeeshop this Sunday,October 22nd , 2007 at 2pm at Higher Ground
in Kensington. There will be past Junior Fellows available where we can
answer any questions you may have about the program and about our
experiences as Junior Fellows overseas.

I would like to encourage all of you to consider applying to become part
of this exciting initiative, and to tell any friends you think would be
well suited for it about it. I am attaching the application form, which
should be filled out and submitted to shawntse at ewb.ca before 6pm,
Wednesday, October 24th,2007 (Application has been extended.)

Please read through the entire document carefully before submitting.

Remember:

1. Include contact info where we can reach you

2. Ensure you meet the mandatory requirements

3. Answer the questions as best you can. We are not looking for right
answers.

For all of you who are not interested in overseas volunteer work at this
time, I am sure you will join me in thanking those who choose to submit
applications, and congratulating the successful candidates that will be
chosen in the next few weeks!

Shawn Tse
