Welcome back 2^nd , 3^rd , and 4^th year students!
Hope you all had a good summer. For those just about to begin their 2^nd
year of studies, the Petroleum Club is an engineering club that serves
as a link between the oil & gas industry and the student body. Our
membership drive is on *Thursday, September 21st* from *1130 - 1230 in
ENE328*. A membership in the Petroleum Club is an excellent way to find
out which career choice would be the most rewarding. For internship
students, this would be an excellent opportunity to figure what sort of
jobs to apply for.
Membership is only $25. Students also receive an automatic membership to
the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) which is one of the most
prestigious petroleum societies. In addition, members also receive the
following benefits:
1. * Scholarships: * Society of Petroleum Engineers will give 4
scholarships worth $1000 each to student members of the petroleum club.
Additional scholarships also available to members of the Petroleum Society.
2. * Industry speakers: * We typically hold two Lunch 'n' Learns
per month. Presenters are typically full-time engineers from the
industry. Pizza and pop provided...always.
3. * Field Trips: * We have a number of exciting new field trips
lined up.
As the new academic year is set to begin, we already have some great
events lined up for the 2006/07 academic year:
* Introduction to Drilling Engineering - Thursday, September 21^st *
Kent Foster from Shell Canada is a former student of the Schulich School
of Engineering and has been working as a drilling engineer since
graduating. He will be presenting on the basic aspects of this exciting
and fast-paced discipline.
* Trip to Albian Sands - March 2007 *
Albian Sands is a joint venture between Shell Canada Ltd, Chevron Canada
Ltd., and Western Oilsands, Inc. The majority owner, Shell Canada, has
generously offered to *fly* out a maximum of 44 students to their Muskeg
River Mine on two separate day-trips. More information will be available
in winter.
You can also drop-by the 4^th year chemical engineering homeroom and ask
for *Kiran Somanchi, Anna Moon, Desirae Stepien or Sue-Rose Slade *if
you would like to purchase your membership ahead of time. For more
