Hello 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year engineering students. Welcome back! Starting
Monday will be another grueling 8 months of your 4 (or 5) year engineering
degree. Many of you will be going on internship or at least will be looking
for summer jobs. That is where the Petroleum Club comes in. For those who
are new, the Club aims to foster closer ties between the oil&gas industry
and the engineering student body at the SSE. Our main aim is to educate
students about the different types of careers available in the o&g industry.
We organize numerous Lunch 'n' Learns and field trips that serve to educate
the student members about the diverse world of o&g engineering.
Some of you in civil and electrical might be thinking that this club is of
no use to you but that would be a wrong attitude to adopt. Most big-name oil
and gas companies are looking for students with any engineering degree - as
long as you possess the pre-requisite interpersonal, presentation,
communication, and team-work skills, you are a good candidate.
We will be holding our membership drive on Wednesday, September 20th from 2
- 3 pm. Details about the venue will be emailed later. If you would like to
purchase a membership earlier, please drop-by the 4th year chemical
engineering homeroom (right next to the first year computer labs) and ask
for Kiran Somanchi, Anna Moon, Desirae Stepien, or Sue-Rose Slade for
membership.
So, if you are interested in finding out more about what the Petroleum Club
can do for you, read the attached Word document.
Kiran Somanchi
President, Petroleum Club
