The Communication and Media Studies (COMS) program in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University invites applications from qualified candidates for a one year Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, beginning August 1, 2026.
We seek a colleague whose teaching and scholarship engage the intersections of media, culture, and power in global and transnational contexts. The successful candidate will teach a 3.0-credit load (six 0.5-credit course sections, in some cases including two sections of the same course) across the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. Teaching will be drawn from the program’s advanced undergraduate offerings, and may include courses in such areas as Communication, Culture and Identity; Diaspora and Communication; Media and Conflict; Communication and Discourse; Media Theory and History; Platform and Instructure Studies.
Course assignments will be determined in consultation with the Program Head based on the candidate’s strengths and program needs. The appointment also includes service expectations appropriate to a limited-term position, including regular office hours and participation in program activities. It is expected all courses will be offered in person.
