Dear CCA members,

We would like to invite proposals for an open panel at UAAC-AUUC<https://uaac-aauc.com/>, taking place at Concordia University, Montréal, from October 13-15 2026. We welcome submissions from scholars across disciplines, exploring the aesthetic, sensory, and semantic implications of generative media:

Beyond Sense and Nonsense: Strategies for looking, listening, and reading in an AI present

With the proliferation of AI-generated media, we are confronted with images, texts, and sounds with a uniquely fraught relationship to indexicality, verisimilitude, and sense. Deepfakes and AI slop become meaningful in their circulation, despite their lack of coherence or believability; texts generated by large language models perform factity without any basis in fact. What becomes of the distinction between sense and nonsense in this moment, when AI hallucinations abound yet a belief in data's objectivity dominates? How might aesthetic practices help us to navigate the murky territory between meaningless and meaningful? We welcome submissions exploring artistic experiments with generative media, the affordances and limitations of machine listening and vision, and historical practices that might equip us with strategies for navigating our super-sensical present. We encourage traditional papers, exploratory performances, and participatory experiences.
