Media, Communication and Transformation
IAMCR 2026 | Galway | 28 June - 2 July

The International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) invites the submission of abstracts for its 2026 conference, to be held from 28 June to 2 July 2026 in Galway, Ireland, and hosted by the University of Galway. The deadline for submissions is 3 February 2026 at 23:59 UTC.

The 2026 conference theme, Peripheries and Connections: Media, Communication, and Transformation, explores the complexities of contemporary media systems in an increasingly polarised yet interconnected world. By examining tensions between centrality and marginality—geographical, cultural, political, or conceptual—the theme reflects IAMCR’s commitment to critical and inclusive dialogue. It also invites participants to consider how media navigate and challenge boundaries in addressing urgent issues such as climate change, migration, representation, and digital inequalities.

Abstracts must be submitted to one of IAMCR’s thematic Sections or Working Groups (S/WGs), each of which has issued its own call for proposals. These calls outline specific thematic priorities and explain how the general theme can be addressed in ways that reflect the particular focus of each Section or Working Group.
