Join us in Ottawa or online Monday night for the first-ever Mary Ann Shadd Cary Lecture: Voices of Change in Canadian Journalism<https://carleton.ca/sjc/cu-events/2025-shadd-cary-lecture/> at Carleton University.
The inaugural Mary Ann Shadd Cary Lecturer is award-winning journalist Camille Dundas, co-founder and editor-in-chief of ByBlacks.com<http://www.byblacks.com/> and a graduate of Carleton’s Journalism program. Camille's lecture is titled, From the Provincial Freeman to ByBlacks.com<http://byblacks.com/>: Ending Extractive Journalism.
Opening remarks will be delivered by Adrienne Shadd, Mary Ann Shadd Cary’s great great great niece. An author, curator and leading researcher on Black Canadian history, Adrienne is currently working on a book about Toronto freedom seeker Deborah Brown.
Camille will be joined on stage by journalism student moderators Simone R. Brown, Sarah J. Harb and Georgia Looman who will lead the Q&A portion of the evening.
