Call for Applications – Fall 2025 Sessional Teaching Opportunities in Media Studies (University of Alberta)

The Media and Technology Studies unit at the University of Alberta invites applications for two sessional (term) Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) positions in Media Studies for the Fall 2025 term. Both courses will be delivered in person at the U of A’s North Campus in Edmonton.

We especially encourage applications from PhD candidates who are ABD (All But Dissertation), as well as early-career scholars with teaching experience in media and cultural studies.

Available Positions:

MST 100 – Introduction to Media Studies

An introductory survey of key concepts, practices, and debates in media and communication studies. This course provides a foundational understanding of media history, forms, institutions, and technologies, while fostering critical engagement with contemporary media landscapes.

MST 200 – Media Theory

A second-year course that introduces students to influential theoretical traditions in media and cultural studies, including political economy, semiotics, feminist media theory, postcolonial theory, and mediatization. Emphasis is placed on applying theoretical tools to current media phenomena.
