Appel à participation

Nous invitons les chercheurs en début de carrière à poser leur candidature à l'école d'été inaugurale STS Nord. Conçue comme un programme de formation et de mise en réseau pour les chercheur.euses émergent.es du Canada, l'école d'été est axée sur le développement intellectuel et professionnel des étudiant.es au doctorat et des postdoctorant.es.

L'école d'été se tiendra à Montréal du 27 au 29 août 2024. Elle offrira trois jours de débats intellectuels et de formation professionnelle dans le domaine science, technologie et société (STS), ainsi que des possibilités de réseautage entre chercheur.euses en début de carrière et spécialistes chevronné.es. Les personnes participantes auront l'occasion :

• de discuter de leurs recherches avec des universitaires chevronné.es dans le domaine;

• d'entrer en contact avec des pairs travaillant dans des domaines connexes;

• de participer à des discussions et des débats sur des sujets centraux du champ STS;

• d'acquérir des compétences professionnelles dans le cadre d'ateliers pratiques sur la publication et le marché de l'emploi pour les chercheur.euses en STS;

• d'aller à la rencontre des "STS dans le monde” dans le cadre de visites sur le terrain à Montréal.

La date limite de dépôt des candidatures est fixée au dimanche 30 juin 2024. Pour postuler, veuillez remplir le formulaire de candidature<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDZHhBm1NlLEHuPbV9mHGkXuSkrI-CWf34XxbsE8zlZ5aEZg/viewform> et indiquer votre nom, vos coordonnées, votre affiliation institutionnelle et fournir un texte justificatif de 250 à 500 mots en anglais ou en français. Ce texte doit décrire votre sujet de recherche et l'intérêt que vous portez à l'école d'été. Nous vous informerons si votre candidature a été retenue avant le 12 juillet 2024. Veuillez noter que les activités de l'école d'été se dérouleront principalement en anglais, mais nous invitons les candidat.es intéressé.es à soumettre leur candidature dans la langue de leur choix (français, anglais).

Il n'y a pas de frais de participation. Les repas du midi, certains repas du soir et les déplacements à Montréal sont pris en charge. Des fonds sont également disponibles pour les étudiant.es qui nécessitent une aide financière pour les frais de déplacement et d'hébergement. Veuillez indiquer sur le formulaire de candidature si vous souhaitez bénéficier de cette aide.

Cette première édition de l'école d'été est organisée par Florence Millerand (CIRST<https://cirst.uqam.ca/>, UQAM), Norma Möllers, (Sociologie, Université Queen's<https://www.queensu.ca/sociology/>) et Kean Birch (Institute for Technoscience & Society<https://www.yorku.ca/research/its/>, Université York), avec la collaboration de l'équipe de coordination du CIRST (Jean-Benoit Cormier Landry, Martine Foisy, Hélène Carlettini).

Call for Participation

We are inviting early career researchers to apply to the inaugural STS North Summer School. Intended as a training and networking program to meet the needs of emerging scholars situated in Canada, the Summer School is focused on the intellectual and professional development of PhD students and postdocs.

The Summer School will take place in Montreal, August 27-29, 2024. The School will include three days of intellectual debate and professional training in the field of science and technology studies (STS), as well as provide opportunities to network with early career and senior scholars in the field. Researchers will have the opportunity to:

• discuss their research with senior scholars in the field

• connect with peers working in related areas

• participate in discussions on key debates in STS

• learn professional skills in hands-on workshops on publishing and getting a job as an STS scholar

• engage with ‘STS in the world’ during ethnographic field trips in Montreal.

The closing date for applications is Sunday, June 30, 2024. To apply, please complete the application form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDZHhBm1NlLEHuPbV9mHGkXuSkrI-CWf34XxbsE8zlZ5aEZg/viewform>, and enter your name, contact details, institutional affiliation along with a 250-500 word supporting statement in English or French. The statement should explain your research topic and interest in the school. We will inform you whether your application has been successful by July 12, 2024. Please note that Summer School activities will be held primarily in English, but we invite interested candidates to submit applications in the language of their choice (French, English).

There is no participation fee. Some meals and transportation within Montreal will be provided. There is also funding available for students who need support for travel and accommodation - please indicate on the application if you request travel and accommodations support.

This year’s summer school is hosted by the Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche sur la Science et la Technologie<https://cirst.uqam.ca/> (CIRST), in collaboration with the Department of Sociology at Queen’s University and the Institute for Technoscience & Society, York University.
