Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Critical Tech Talk 8<https://uwaterloo.ca/arts/events/critical-tech-talk-8-humility-value-engineering-and-design> will take place on Friday, March 22 at 4:00 pm. The hybrid event will feature Professor Kari Zacharias from University of Manitoba, founder of Retool the Ring. While the talk is about engineering, it focuses on ritual studies and the colonial context of the Engineering Iron Ring Ceremony, which was written by Rudyard Kipling. There will be much here for non-engineers to dig into, and the discussion will provide a restorative break from the grandstanding of Elon Musk and Sam Altman.

For registration, event details, and to learn more about Critical Tech Talk, please visit:

Hope to see you on March 22 at 4:00 pm in person or on Zoom!

Best regards,
Marcel

I acknowledge that I work and teach on the traditional territory of the Attawandaron (Neutral), Anishnaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, land promised and given to Six Nations, which includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.
