Monday Night Seminar: Melody Jue & Zoe Todd
MARCH 18 | 6:00PM-8:00PM | *ONLINE*

Featuring guest speakers Melody Jue and Zoe Todd, this virtual seminar is cohosted by the "Math for Minerals" working group, whose research investigates how the affordances of media are shaped by the geological elements they are made of, and theoretical approaches which frame "natural" environments themselves as media.

Melody Jue<https://www.melodyjue.info/> (University of California, Santa Barbara) is a writer and researcher who works across the fields of ocean humanities, science fiction, science studies, and media theory. She is the author of Wild Blue Media: Thinking Through Seawater <https://www.dukeupress.edu/wild-blue-media> (Duke University Press, 2020), which won the Speculative Fictions and Cultures of Science Book Prize, and the co-editor of Saturation: An Elemental Politics<https://www.dukeupress.edu/saturation> (Duke University Press, 2021) with Rafico Ruiz.

Zoe Todd<https://fishphilosophy.org/> (Simon Fraser University) is a Red River Métis scholar from Edmonton, Alberta who studies the relationships between freshwater fish futures and Indigenous sovereignty in Canada, with a particular focus on freshwater fish relationships in Dr. Todd's home province of Alberta. As an artist-researcher, Dr. Todd employs diverse methods including artistic research-creation, immersive social science approaches, and 'critical Indigenous fish philosophy' to help dynamic collectives assert the well-being of fish in the face of complex challenges. They are a co-founder of the Institute for Freshwater Fish Futures<https://freshwaterfishfutures.ca/>, which is a collaborative Indigenous-led initiative that is ‘restor(y)ing fish futures, together’ across three continents.

Please note: this is a virtual event, held online over Zoom. The meeting link will be distributed to all eventbrite registrees.
