HOT DOCS CINEMA, RISE UP FEMINIST ARCHIVE, & ANOTHER STORY BOOKSHOP are proud to present…

Saturday March 2, 6:30PM and Sunday, March 3, 1:30 PM, the feature documentary, ANALOGUE REVOLUTION: HOW FEMINIST MEDIA CHANGED THE WORLD (93 mins.; Dir. Marusya Bociurkiw 2023) will have two showings at Hot Docs Cinema, 506 Bloor St W. Tickets for Toronto screenings availablehere<https://hotdocs.ca/whats-on/films/analogue-revolution>:

Stick around after the March 2nd screening for a panel discussion on feminist archives, media and the state of feminist activism in Canada, moderated by filmmaker and professor Min Sook Lee, and featuring some of the film’s interviewees: Leela Acharya (Diva Magazine 1988-1996); mediamaker Theo Jean Cuthand (“Lessons in Baby Dyke Theory” 1995),video artist Lisa Steele, (“Birthday Suit”, 1974), Zainub Verjee, founder of InVisible Colours Women of Colour Film Festival (1989), and film director Marusya Bociurkiw.

ANALOGUE REVOLUTION traces the rise and fall of analogue feminist communications preceding the MeToo era. From Halifax to Vancouver, feminist storytellers of the 1970s to 90s took hold of analogue technologies, documenting everything from racism in the women's movement, to how to insert a diaphragm. Rare archival footage of pro-choice demonstrations in the 1970’s & 80's, and long-lost feminist cinema, lead to the film’s climax: draconian cutbacks to women’s organizations across Canada, following the massacre of women at École Polytechnique, Montreal, 1989. The film concludes with resurgence: young BIPOC feminists creating new digital networks. The film is narrated by Canadian queer rockstar icon Carole Pope.

The March 3 screening will be followed by a Feminist Scan-athon, SUNDAY MARCH 3, 4-6PM AT CSI ANNEX, 720 BATHURST. Bring your feminist/queer ephemera;we'll scan & digitize it for you. FREE.
