WGSA/RF is delighted to host Fae Johnstone from Wisdom2Action for a community-grounded safety planning workshop on October 6th 12-2pm Eastern.

About the workshop:

This workshop will be facilitated by Wisdom2Action (W2A) under the direction of Fae Johnstone (she/they), and supported by three team members. Johnstone will offer after a short introduction and context setting regarding growing levels of anti-gender ideology expressed through hate and violence against women, 2SLGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, racialized, and/or other marginalized and oppressed people, or individuals who have intersecting, marginalized identities, in Canada. Johnstone will then offer insights into community-led and non-carceral responses to safety concerns.

The workshop participants will be divided into breakout rooms with W2A team members present to facilitate a discussion about non-carceral and community-grounded safety planning experiences, examples, ideas, and/or ongoing campus-based concerns. Participants will return to plenary and the W2A facilitators will provide short summaries of each of the breakout groups’ main points of discussion and facilitators will provide insight into translating community-grounded safety planning into the campus context.

After the workshop is complete, W2A will compile the input from the workshop and will be made available to participants and our general membership for future use.
