Dans le cadre de la série Les temps qui viennent | conférences & rencontres, le CELAT-UQAM vous convie à une nouvelle conférence internationale qui vise à proposer un regard et une compréhension critique et interdisciplinaire des phénomènes culturels, artistiques et sociaux actuels. Nous avons le plaisir de recevoir :

Laurajane Smith, professeure et directrice du Centre of Heritage and Museum Studies, à la Research School of Humanities and the Arts, de l’Australian National University, pour une conférence intitulée The emotional politics of heritage

This talk will theorize both the affective qualities of heritage and the processes through which heritage becomes a resource of political power. Heritage is both an emotional and political resource that is readily and visibly mobilized in right-wing populist movements. However, the lecture will also identify the less obvious and quieter ways heritage works to emotionally legitimize and maintain the status quo while also identifying the emotional registers that underline how heritage is used to affirm progressive social and political aspirations. The talk will be illustrated with cases from the USA and Australia.

Laurajane Smith est professeure et directrice du Centre of Heritage and Museum Studies, à la Research School of Humanities and the Arts, de l’Australian National University. Elle est fondatrice de l’Association of Critical Heritage Studies, et est la directrice de l’International Journal of Heritage Studies depuis 2009. Elle est aussi la co-directrice, avec William Logan du Key Issues in Cultural Heritage (Routledge), et autrice de l’ouvrage Uses of Heritage (2006, Routledge).
