Canadian Communication Association (CCA) Annual Conference 2021
Tuesday June 1 to Friday June 4, 2021
In collaboration with the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta

Dear CCA Colleagues,
We are very pleased to announce our Call for papers for the next annual conference of the Canadian Communication Association, which will be held from June 1-4, 2021 as part of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (CFHSS) 2021 Congress. This year’s theme is “Northern Relations." Congress 2021 is organized this year in partnership with the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

We call for papers that explore and extend this theme and/or contribute to the range and depth of communications, media-culture, and digital technology scholarship in Canada, and internationally. Please note that we also welcome papers and panels addressing last year’s theme, “Bridging Divides: Confronting Colonialism and Anti-Black Racism,” following the cancellation of our 2020 conference due to the pandemic.

Proposal Submission Deadline: December 6, 2020.

Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on our annual conference

  *   The 2021 CCA annual conference will not be cancelled this year.
  *   If your CCA membership was paid for 2020 and you wish to participate in our annual conference this year, your membership will roll over to 2021.
  *   If you submitted an abstract, a panel proposal or a roundtable that has been accepted for CCA 2020, you can re-submit the exact same proposal and it will be automatically accepted. Please tick the box in the submission platform identifying your paper as such . Should you prefer to revise it, we’re happy to peer-review it as a new submission.
  *   Regarding the format of our 2021 meeting, there is still uncertainty at this point. While a face-to-face only meeting in Edmonton is more and more unlikely, we cannot confirm whether our annual conference will be hybrid (both face-to-face and online) or exclusively online. We will notify you via the CCA listserv of our decision in mid-November 2020, prior to the deadline, and following recommendations from Congress and the CCA Board of members. We are launching the CFP now because we do not expect the general structure of our conference (single papers, panels and roundtables) to change drastically, even if we go online.
  *   Finally, we might not have access this year again to many of the things we love about CCA (walking together in a collective search for the building where the keynote is held, corridor conversations near the coffee table and those at the beer tent, random meetings at airports) but we value the circulation of ideas, the possibility to be stimulated by each other’s work and the collegial atmosphere that has always been that of our community. And that, we hope to achieve no matter the medium (take that, McLuhan).

Appel à communications
Colloque annuel de l’Association canadienne de communication (ACC)
1er juin au 4 juin 2021
En collaboration avec l’Université de l’Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta

Chers et chères collègues de l’ACC, nous sommes heureux d’annoncer l’appel à communications pour le prochain colloque annuel  de l’Association canadienne de communication, qui se tiendra du 1er au 4 juin 2021 dans le cadre du Congrès des sciences humaines de la Fédération canadienne des sciences humaines et sociales (FCSH). Le thème du congrès cette année est  « Relations nordiques » et est organisé en collaboration avec l’Université de l’Alberta, à Edmonton.

Nous invitons des propositions de communications qui explorent ce thème et ou contribuent à la recherche en communication, en culture des médias et en technologie numérique au Canada et à l'étranger. Veuillez noter que nous invitons également des communications abordant le thème de l'année dernière, « Confronter le colonialisme et le racisme anti-noir », suite à l'annulation de notre colloque de 2020 en raison de la pandémie.

Date limite de soumission des propositions : 6 décembre 2020.

Les conséquences de la COVID-19 sur notre colloque

  *   Le colloque annuel 2021 de l’ACC ne sera pas annulé.
  *   Si votre adhésion à l'ACC a été payée pour 2020 et que vous souhaitez participer à notre colloque annuel cette année, votre adhésion de l’an dernier sera reportée à 2021.
  *   Si vous avez soumis un résumé, une proposition de panel ou une table ronde qui a été acceptée pour le colloque de l’ACC de 2020, vous pouvez soumettre à nouveau exactement la même proposition et elle sera automatiquement acceptée. Veuillez cocher la case dans la plateforme de soumission identifiant votre article dans ce cas. Si vous préférez réviser votre proposition, nous serons heureux de l’évaluer à nouveau.
  *   Concernant le format de notre colloque 2021, il y a encore des incertitudes à ce sujet. Bien qu'un colloque en personne uniquement à Edmonton soit de plus en plus improbable, nous ne pouvons pas confirmer si notre colloque sera hybride (à la fois en présentiel et en ligne) ou exclusivement en ligne. Nous vous informerons via la liste de diffusion de l’ACC de notre décision à la mi-novembre 2020, avant la date limite, et suite aux recommandations de la Fédération et du Conseil d’administration de l’ACC. Nous lançons l’appel à communication maintenant puisque nous ne nous attendons pas à ce que la structure générale de notre colloque (présentations, panels et tables rondes) change radicalement, même si nous passons en ligne.
  *   Enfin, nous pourrions ne pas avoir accès cette année encore à plusieurs des choses que nous aimons à propos de l’ACC (errer tous ensemble à la recherche du bâtiment où se tiendra le conférence plénière, les conversations près de la table à café et celles autour d’un bière, et les rencontres d’amis et collègues dans les aéroports) mais nous croyons à l’importance de la circulation des idées, de la possibilité d'être stimulé par le travail de chacun et de l'ambiance collégiale qui a toujours été celle de notre communauté. Et ces aspects de notre colloque, nous espérons y parvenir quel que soit le medium (McLuhan, ça te va?).
