The School of Journalism and Communication invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary (tenure track) appointment as the Carty Chair in Business and Financial Journalism at the rank of Assistant or Associate (rank consistent with the successful candidate’s qualifications) beginning July 1, 2020.
Established in 2001, the endowed Carty Chair was a first for Canada. It signalled Carleton’s commitment to producing journalists who were literate in business and financial matters, qualified to monitor the nation’s boardrooms while engaging citizens in critical conversations about their economy and the national/international impacts of intersections involving the business and financial sectors and political actors.
The successful candidate will develop courses for, teach and advise undergraduate and graduate Journalism students interested in business journalism; explore collaborations with Carleton’s Department of Economics and Sprott School of Business; and, promote business and financial literacy to all journalism students.
With a primary focus on business and financial journalism for research and teaching, the Chair will also be an active participant in the Journalism program’s broader pedagogical mission, including teaching theory-based and professional journalism courses in a variety of subject areas and media formats at undergraduate/graduate levels, and undertaking graduate supervisions.
The Chair will be dedicated to enterprising teaching and research and student engagement, and will be an enthusiastic participant in the academic and administrative life of the School, university and larger community.
