post-doctoral, 3 graduate, 3 undergraduate)

Institution: TRSM Diversity Institute, Future Skills

Start Date: ASAP

Type: temporary, 6-month contract with potential for renewal

Hours of work: 15 - 36.25 hours/week

Hourly rate: PhD: 30.00 - 35.00 CAD/hour, Graduate: 25.00 - 28.00 CAD/hour,
Undergraduate: 18.50 - 22.00 CAD/hour

About The Diversity Institute and The Future Skills Centre

The Diversity Institute (DI) conducts and coordinates multi-disciplinary,
multi-stakeholder research to address the needs of diverse Canadians, the
changing nature of skills and competencies, and the policies, processes and
tools that advance economic inclusion and success. DI’s action-oriented,
evidence-based approach is advancing knowledge of the complex barriers
faced by underrepresented groups, leading practices to effect change, and
producing concrete results.

DI is leading the research stream of the Future Skills Centre, focusing on
how best to prepare Canadians today for workforce opportunities of the
future.


The Future Skills Centre – Centre des Compétences futures (FSC-CCF) – is a
forward-thinking research centre with a focus on innovative approaches to
identify emerging in-demand skills and help Canadians develop the talent
they need to take full advantage of and succeed in the new economy. FSC-CCF
is led by a partnership between Ryerson University, the Conference Board of
Canada and Blueprint and is funded by the Government of Canada. The
consortium offers deep knowledge of economic and technology trends, public
policy, rigorous applied research and evaluation expertise, extensive
knowledge mobilization and convening experience, and longstanding
commitments to skills training and development.

The Opportunity

The Diversity Institute is currently recruiting Research Assistants who
will provide professional assistance to the Diversity Institute - Future
Skills research team. Successful candidates will support the design,
methodology and execution of academic and customized research on future
skills.

The Research Assistant’s role will include some or all of the following
common research activities (activities will be commensurate with
qualifications):


   -

   Providing research design support
   -

   Conducting environmental scans and literature reviews
   -

   Facilitating individual or group interviews
   -

   Conducting field research
   -

   Documenting field research using systematic notes and memos
   -

   Assisting in editing research reports
   -

   Transcribing interview transcripts
   -

   Writing research memos and analysis reports
   -

   Assisting in data analysis of a variety of qualitative and/or
   quantitative data
   -

   Preparing materials for the Ryerson University Research Ethics Board
   proposal submission
   -

   Strategic, accurate, and efficient data management to best support the
   project and ethically safeguard confidential and/or sensitive data as
   necessary.


Qualifications

   -

   Completed or pursuing PhD/Graduate/Undergraduate degree in a
   research-intensive discipline.
   -

   Experience in conducting research projects in academic and/or industry
   settings. Previous knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research
   methods and understanding of academic publication conventions is required.
   Comfort with mixed methods desired.
   -

   Experience working in education, skills development and/or training
   sectors is an asset.
   -

   Experience with quantitative research software (R, SAS, SPSS) an asset
   -

   Experience with qualitative research software (NVIVO) an asset.
   -

   French language is an asset.
   -

   Regional travel may be required.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
