Happy Friday Civil Students,
I hope you are settling well into your Winter Semester. The CSCE Team has been working hard in the background to organize numerous fun events to connect you with the Civil Engineering Profession.
Who is CSCE?
The CSCE (Canadian Society of Civil Engineering) is a learned society created to develop and maintain high standards of Civil Engineering practice in Canada and to enhance the public image of the Civil Engineering Profession. The University of Calgary’s Student Chapter, led by our Co-Chairs Aster Lau and Crystal Hon, will provide opportunities for you to discover Civil Engineering outside of just an academic setting. Through our numerous social events, you will be able to connect with professionals, and undergraduate and graduate students. To be a part of all our events, you must be a member of CSCE.
How can I join CSCE?
It’s simple, and free. Just click on the following link<https://csce.ca/en/membership/edi/> and fill out the form.
Fun fact, did you know that CSCE doesn’t acknowledge our University? It’s true, the University of Calgary is not accredited, but ‘Adamson University of Calgary’ is. So when filling out your form, just lie like you’re in an interview and say you went to a prestigious institution.

What’s the Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition?
The Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition is an annual event where participants must design and create a bridge made out of only popsicle sticks and glue. Points will be awarded based on the bridge’s structural integrity, optimization of materials, innovative ideas, and aesthetics. Participants who perform well will be awarded up to 5% in ENCI 451 Structural Engineering I. Fortunately this year you do not have to visit Sait (famous for not being a University) as the competition will be held online. Participants can choose to compete solo or in groups of 2 to 4. To be able to compete, all participants MUST BE MEMBERS OF CSCE (sign up here<https://csce.ca/en/membership/edi/>, same link as above). More details to come so stay tuned.
Sounds fun, can I join?
If you are in Second Year then you’re in luck. We are looking for candidates to be the voice for Civil Engineering’s 2nd year students.
Your duties will include:
* Voicing the concerns of 2nd year students
* Providing a unique perspective during discussion
* Introducing new methods of engaging the student body
* Helping the club with day to day tasks
* Following me on Twitter to help boost my clout
If you are interested, please fill out the attached form and email it to CSCEUC at gmail.com<mailto:CSCEUC at gmail.com> by Friday, January 30th.
Cheerio,
The CSCE Team
