[ENCI-l] Troitsky Bridge Building Competition: Info Meeting on Monday!!

Good Evening Civil Engineering Students!

The UofCalgary’s Troitsky Bridge Building Club will be hosting two Information Sessions through Zoom to recruit students. The first is on Monday, October 5th at 6:30 PM, and the second is on Wednesday, October 7th at 6:30 PM.

The Troitsky Bridge Building Competition is an event hosted by the University of Concordia in Montreal, Quebec and every year in March, Universities from across Canada compete to build the most efficient bridge design within the allowed dimensions. The competition encourages innovation by restricting the bridge to be constructed only out of popsicle sticks, white glue, and dental floss.

The bridges designed by students have been over a metre long, weighing 6 kilograms, and were made modular in design. Take a look at some of the brides that were entered last year by the University of Calgary team:

In addition to traveling to Montreal at a subsidized fee, this is a great opportunity to develop design skills, get hands on experience with construction tools, build teamwork skills and apply classroom knowledge in a practical situation. Not only does this look great on a resume, it is a great talking point during interviews.

However, we highly recommend you to attend if possible since we will be discussing things in detail and we are having trouble reaching out to students through E-Mails due to the process of having it to be approved by the administration. In the Information night, we will be providing the membership forms.
