Hello,
I am not in Civil Engineering anymore. Would it be possible for you to add me to the Mechanical Engineering email list instead?
Thank you,
Harsh Shah

Subject: [ENCI-l] Course Info of ENCI 619.01 - Scientific Computing for Engineers
Dear 4th-year students,
It is my pleasure to share some information on the course ENCI 619.01 Scientific Computing for Engineers which is offered in Winter 2021 by myself. The unofficial course outline is attached for your information. As a final year BSc student in Civil, you can request to take this course as a Group B technical elective course.
In this course, we will survey a wide range of computational methods in science and engineering, from fundamental topics that you may have seen in your undergrad numerical method class (e.g., ENGG 407) but never saw applied, to powerful concepts and tools in linear algebra that are useful for data analytics and machine learning. The instruction will be conducted using a flipped-classroom approach, and the focus is on the application of those methods using existing software packages (e.g., MATLAB), rather than lengthy derivations and writing code from scratch. The course will be suitable for MEng, MSc, and upper-level BSc students who wish to 1) understand better how numerical models work and 2) gain confidence in dealing with data.
If you are interested in these topics, please do not be intimidated by the fact that the course is also listed at the 600 level, because I will make sure everyone in the course will have the preparation they need to succeed in the course. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. For registering this course, please fill the attached Registration Exceptions Form and send it to our Associate Head in Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Jennifer He (jianhe at ucalgary.ca<mailto:jianhe at ucalgary.ca>), for approval. I look forward to seeing many of you in Winter 2021!
Thanks,
