Good afternoon Civil Engineering students,

*New* Technical Elective for Fall 2018:

ENGG 523 - Bio-Inspired Engineering<https://www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/engineering.html#43074> - Engineering can take inspiration from nature to develop new products, processes, and systems, or improve existing designs. Topics in this course include design by analogy, functional biology, principles and techniques of biomimicry and bio-inspired engineering methods, and bio-inspired computation. Students will gain experience and a working knowledge of ideation, concept development and will model and create a bio-inspired engineering project.

Lecture is Mon/Wed/Fri 1-1:50pm, with tutorial  "TBA" meaning that it will not appear at any particular time in your weekly schedule.  The tutorial will involve content such as:  online material, possible field trips and/or class visits, workshops, and project drop-in sessions.

Some important information:

*         This course is suitable for students in 3rd year standing or above, only.

*         You can register yourself (you do not need special approval to enroll).

This course is approved for use in the following programs as described below:

*         Civil students - permitted as one (1) Group B Tech Elective substitution from off the list.  (You are only permitted one Group B tech elective substitution.)

*         Energy and Environment specialization students - requesting its use as an ENEE-specific tech elective substitution, please email Dr. E. Nowicki enowicki at ucalgary.ca<mailto:enowicki at ucalgary.ca> with your request and rationale.

*         Biomedical Engineering specialization students - for information about its possible acceptability in the BMES program, specifically, please email bioengineering at ucalgary.ca<mailto:bioengineering at ucalgary.ca> with your name, ID number, and enquiry.
