Hello, engineers!
Registration for Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 starts next week, and we've got some important information for you:
Registration:
* The Fall 2016/Winter 2017 timetable and your enrolment appointment times are viewable now, on your Student Centre under Enrolment Dates. Please double-check your Enrolment Date. It is possible that your Enrolment Date/Time may have changed slightly due to some recent upgrades. It should be set between March 28-April 1. If you do not have an Enrolment Date listed, please contact engginfo at ucalgary.ca<mailto:engginfo at ucalgary.ca>
* All 300-level courses are unavailable until June 13 to allow time for the program placement process to be completed. Any attempt to register into 300-level courses will result in a "Department Consent required" error. Department Consent will not be granted, so please do not seek consent. The restriction will be removed after placement is complete - by June 13.
* Register for both Fall and Winter semester courses as soon as registration opens for you.
* Each student is personally responsible for the continuing completeness and accuracy of their course registration. Make sure you are following the proper curriculum for your program when registering in your courses using Degree Navigator and/or the Calendar http://www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/en-4.html. If there is a discrepancy between your Degree Navigator and the curriculum listed in the Calendar, please speak to an advisor in the Engineering Student Centre or your program director for clarification on your course selection.
Time Conflicts:
Time conflicts must be discussed by an advisor the Engineering Student Centre. Please explain clearly the following details on the form:
- the extent of the conflict;
- why it is necessary to be registered in both courses that conflict;
- your attendance plan to accommodate the conflict.
We will obtain the necessary approvals for you, on your behalf - provided the conflict is approved. We will contact you if it is denied.
We must send all Time Conflicts to Enrolment Services for processing. As a result, they may take some time to be processed. As a result of the delay, you must consider the following:
- Register for the course you must take (ie: lower-level courses and repeats) to ensure you are clearing your degree requirements.
- Have a back-up plan in place in case a course is full when Enrolment Services begins processing the conflicts.
- Remember that lecture-to-lecture 100% overlaps cannot be approved.
Program requirements and general reminders:
- Note that grades of D or D+ are not acceptable for pre-requisite purposes. Pre-requisite waivers are not given.
- On your second attempt of a course, you must obtain a minimum grade of C- or better to clear it.
- Schulich regulations require that you be full time in both the Fall and Winter terms.
- You must clear lower-level courses first, at latest by the end of the Winter term of the following year, even if they are not pre-requisites for anything in your program. Delaying courses for more than one year can result in academic probation.
- All 200-level common core courses must be completed by the end of the Winter term of your second year in the engineering program. Failure to do so will result in being required to withdraw (RTW) from the School.
- These regulations can be found in the University of Calgary Calendar http://www.ucalgary.ca/pubs/calendar/current/en-3.html
The Engineering Student Centre will have drop-in advising hours every day next week, March 28-April 1, from 9:30-3:30. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Regards,
