 Dear Undergraduate Students:

This is to encourage you to apply the NSERC Postgraduate scholarship if you are planning to attend our graduate program.  Please find the information below in regard to the scholarship.


The Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's (CGS M)<http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/CGSM-BESCM_eng.asp> program supports students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.
Value:

$17,500 for 12 months, non renewable

Citizenship:

Canadian or Permanent Resident

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master's Program (CGS M) students must have achieved a first-class average, as determined by the university issuing the transcripts, in the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent). At the University of Calgary, a student must have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher in the last 2 years of study. Each institution has their own definition of first-class average. The University of Calgary does not convert scales.

Application:

Research Portal opens September 1. Applications are submitted electronically through the Research Portal.
Queen Elizabeth II Scholarships<https://iac01.ucalgary.ca/FGSA/Public/SpecificAward.aspx?AwardID=3053>: Applicants to the CGS-M competition will automatically be considered for the Province of Alberta Queen Elizabeth II scholarships held at the University of Calgary (annual value of $10,800) being offered through this competition.
Applicants should also contact their Graduate Program Administrator for information on the application process for the program's recommended Queen Elizabeth II scholarships.
The Tri-Council portal list of programs available at the University of Calgary includes research units and administrative offices as well as graduate programs. To ensure correct processing of your application, choose a graduate program available at the University of Calgary. Transcripts:

If you are currently registered as a master's student at the University of Calgary, and you are not applying for this award at other universities, you can request copies of your transcripts from the University Designate. Send an email to gsaward at ucalgary.ca<mailto:gsaward at ucalgary.ca> indicating 'CGS_Master's transcripts_your last name' in the subject line. In the body of the email, include:
?  your full name
?  University of Calgary student ID number
?  statement that you are a Master's student at the University of Calgary.  (No official documentation is required.)
?  your research area (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC)
?  your program
?  list of all transcripts from every post-secondary institution you have attended. (Ensure the University has your most recent and complete transcripts.)
Deadline to request transcripts is November 14.
If you do not meet the criteria above, you must request official transcripts from each institution that you have attended according to the instructions on the CGS website: http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/CGSM-BESCM_eng.asp

Canada Graduate
Scholarship Master's (CGSM)
Committee:

The CGS M committee members will be drawn from the Graduate Scholarship Committee. The committee will be interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary in nature. (Members not yet selected for the 2014 competition)

Selection
process:

Each CGS M application will be reviewed by three committee members and assessed according to the Selection Criteria<http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/RR_CGSM-RR_BESCM_eng.asp#SelectionCriteria>. Committee members will be assigned to applications based on field of research (health, natural sciences and engineering and social sciences and humanities).

Conflict of
Interest:

Committee members will declare a conflict of interest if their relationship with the student is other than an academic one; if they supervise or have provided a letter of reference for the applicant; or if they have a direct or indirect financial interest in the application being reviewed.
Note: An administrator in the student's program or on the student's supervisory committee (excluding the supervisor) is not considered a conflict unless they have provided a letter of reference for the applicant.
