Scholarship Award

Iceland is a model for what can be achieved in renewable energy development and provides the ideal platform to springboard your career. To support our vision of a sustainable future, Iceland School of Energy at Reykjavik University, will be awarding several partial fee scholarships from 3,000 to 9,000 USD, in the Fall of 2015, for the following programmes:

  *   MSc Sustainable Energy Science
  *   MSc Sustainable Energy Engineering

The scholarship aims to attract outstanding graduates from a wide range of backgrounds, who have a common interest in finding ways to better meet the growing demand for sustainable energy, to this fast developing field. Iceland School of Energy signs dual degree contract with Tianjin University in China
This September Reykjavik University (RU) and Tianjin University signed a dual degree contract. "Tianjin University is a leading university in the technology industries in China, and will play a key role in the development of renewable energy in China." said Dr Ari Kristinn Jónsson, President of the University of Reykjavik during the signing.

The Chinese government has adopted an ambitious environmental policy. To achieve its objectives, it is necessary to educate professionals in the field of renewable energy. The agreement at Reykjavik University is a part of this plan. This is the second contract this year that RU has signed with a Chinese university, in May RU signed a similar agreement with the China University of Geo-sciences.

"The development of renewable energy resources is one of the greatest challenges the world's population faces. Iceland is an international leader in the use of renewable energy, so we have valuable knowledge to share with other countries, both through education and partnership development. RU is working around the world in the transmission of this expertise." Dr Ari Kristinn Jónsson.

Meet the Energy Industry, lecture series:  "Modelling alternative fuel vehicle implementation in the US."

David Keith, Professor at MIT Sloan School of Management, gave a talk as a part of Iceland School of Energy‘s "Meet the Energy Industry" lecture series. David Keith leads the MIT project on modelling alternative fuel vehicle implementation. David outlined the hybrid and plug-in hybrid evolution in the US and the difficulties these emerging technologies have to overcome, to be viewed as a viable transport method.

David demonstrated system dynamic models that are being developed within Sloan School of Management that focus on the market‘s reaction to different levels of taxation, incentives and price of solar cells and alternative fuel vehicles. The alternative fuel vehicle model is very complex and allows the hypothetical testing of different scenarios.
