After much tweaking, some panic and an entire newly machined part Axiom is ready for scrutineering tomorrow morning at 7:30am. When a key part of the motor housing stripped on tuesday after a bolt came loose (titanium and aluminium don't play well together) we had to scramble to find a machine shop that could re-tool the piece. It took a bit of doing as we all tried to figure out what machinists are called here in Australia and therefore didn't know what to look for in the yellow pages...'Engineers' was the magic name (go figure!) and Scott soon had the files over to them. Eight hours later we had a steel part and the motor was back in place. In the meantime, the drivers got valuable track time using one of the backup motors and we were able to test out the array, telemetry, canopy, driver egress and general safety procedures.
Speaking of safety, I think we have one of the highest safety levels amongst the teams and I've been horrified to see students grinding without goggles, others skylarking in the parking lot riding the roo-bar bumpers while doing donuts, and one student bracing a wood stud with his leg while running a skil saw towards his leg!!! Yikes!!!

So, tonight the car will be loaded onto a truck and taken to the Darwin fairgounds for a 4hour window of scrutineering. The purpose of this exercise is to determine that all regulations have been met and that the car/team are road worthy. We anticipate a clear pass and can all relax tomorrow evening.
Rob and Steve are in Tennant creek getting closer with the 6ton truck. Tomorrow the entire team will be here and so it'll be 'shrimp on the barbie' time!!

Cheer us on - we can hear you from here!!

Lynne and the Solar Car Team
