Calling all bright, green-minded engineers!
On April 15th, 2010, a group of students from the University of Calgary got
some very exciting news - we will be the only Team representing Canada in
the U.S. Department of Energy's prestigious Solar Decathlon competition!
The Solar Decathlon challenges student teams from around the world to
design, build, and operate the most attractive, affordable and
energy-efficient solar-powered house. Each team must bring their project to
Washington D.C. in the fall of 2011, where it will be displayed on the
National Mall for an annual average of over 150,000
visitors.
The University of Calgary team (Team Canada) is welcoming participation from
any interested engineering students in this incredible opportunity. We will
be leveraging past experience - including a 6th place finish out of 20 teams
in 2009 - while simultaneously developing the program in new and exciting
directions.
There are opportunities for engineers from every stream, be it civil,
mechanical, electrical, computer/software, chemical, or geomatics. The
project employs cutting edge sustainable strategies and technologies such as
photovoltaics, efficiency measures, modular structure, and innovative
interfacing. Furthermore, students are welcome to join the project to gain
valuable experience in new areas such as design, architecture, business and
finance, and communications. The project provides fantastic hands-on
experience, great connections in academia, industry and government, and is
simply a whole lot of fun.
If you are an engineering student who is passionate about a sustainable
future and green-energy technologies, this is the project for you. To find
out more, please join us in the MSC Escalus (2nd Floor, MacEwan Hall, U of C
Campus) on May 3, 2010, 5:30 to 6:30pm.
If you are interested but unable to attend, please contact me via email at
