Hello all students,
Each year the department receives a number of Undergraduate Research Student Assistantships (USRAs) whereby students work with a professor and his/her research team during the summer on various and sundry research projects. You might be in the structures lab helping a grad student build and break huge specimens, you might be knee deep in garbage, cold water, or a swamp gathering data for environmental effects monitoring, you might be watching big trucks run along a test road, you might be mining data files to unearth the latest knowledge in soils, traffic, snow, methane, or whatever. Either way, you will have a great experience learning the ins and outs of research. If you are even remotely considering grad school, this is a great way to test drive the concept and see if it really fits your life plan! The positions are a four month posting, beginning in early May and ending late August. Most jobs are based on campus (although some field work maybe involved, depending on the prof and program) and many students take the opportunity (in consultation with their prof) to catch up, or get ahead of, their program through spring and summer courses, so this can be an added benefit of the job.
To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate student in good standing: fourth year students who will graduate in the November convocation are also eligible.

If you are interested please drop off your resume to me c/o Diana Draper in the Civil office NO LATER than 4:00pm on Friday, January 25th, 2008. Successful students will be notified by mid February.
