Hello Schulich Engineers!
Ok, so how did the midterms go, good, bad or indifferent? From what I hear,
many of you are feeling overwhelmed by and with only four (4!) weeks left
are concerned about stress management, time management and all of those fun
things.
If you think you are not doing as well as expected, you COULD talk to your
prof, TA or study group. If you don't have a study group, look for one
amongst your classmates, design team or fellow EDIC attendees. Too often
our students attend class and then go home to struggle through the
assignments on their own; maybe working with someone will help you to
understand things better. Watch for an email early this week announcing the
TUTOR REGISTRY. A group of 3rd and 4th year students have stepped forward
as tutors available to help you with specific subjects. The registry will
be launched on the ESS Blackboard site...make contact with one of these
students!
You SHOULD consider attending one of the workshops we have organized on time
management, stress management and exam writing strategies/skills as shown in
the attached poster. You will also see the poster around the Engineering
complex this week. The workshops are being put on by the Counseling Centre
and your attendance could be one of the best two hour and $5 investments in
yourself this term. Even if you have been to similar workshops/seminars in
high school, these are geared to the higher pace and demands of university
and will give you some real tips and tricks to keep you calm, confident and
more in control. You only need to come to one of the sessions, so look at
your schedules and reserve a spot. Spaces are limited!
For those of you who are really struggling and are considering drastic
action (to drop courses, drop out, make a program change) you MUST contact
me. Let's talk .. stewing on your own is not the best way to make a major
decision. I'm here to help you with it.
Dr. Lynne
