  Summer Student Positions – Spring/Summer 2006

*Position Title* Information Systems Assistants

*Term of position* May 1 – September 1, 2006

*Purpose of Positions*

These positions will work with the existing Information Services staff 
to support infrastructure projects in the Schulich School of 
Engineering. Under direction, activities performed will include basic 
hardware maintenance/renewal, programming, scripting, software 
packaging, writing of technical documentation, website design and data 
entry, administrative assistance, and testing and configuration of 
computers in the department undergraduate labs.

· Good personal communication and technical writing skills.

· Knowledge and familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.

· Familiarity with web design and PHP would be an beneficial.

· Preference will be given to candidates completing their 3^rd year of 
an undergraduate Engineering degree program.

*Job Duties*

Normal hours for this position will be 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – 
Friday excluding holidays. Some flexibility is available to accommodate 
a spring or summer session course.

The department will be testing, upgrading and maintaining existing 
systems and infrastructure. As part of this process, the following 
duties will be performed by these positions:

   1. Programming and scripting to support software requirements of our
      undergraduate computing labs.
   2. Web design and data entry. This could involve working with PHP
      and/or MySQL.
   3. Assist in standardization and documentation of IS infrastructure.
   4. Assessment of existing computer hardware and basic maintenance as
      needed.
   5. Testing and documentation of Operating Systems.
