The Junior Fellowship Program is EWB's new short-term
overseas volunteer program! The Junior Fellowship
Program in International Development is a unique
opportunity to participate in Engineer’s Without
Borders renowned development training program and
contribute directly to the organizations
overseas work.
EWB Calgary will be looking for applicants for an
overseas 4-month position (May to August 2006). All
interested applicants are asked to submit their
application form by Friday, October 28 at 4pm. Interviews will take
place during the week of Monday,
October 31 to Friday, November 4. Application forms

*Program Background:
The program has been designed to be an introduction to
the complexities of development though both theory and
practical fieldwork components. Participants actively
work thought EWB’s development curriculum with
guidance from the organizations National Office
including participating in a week of intensive
training in Toronto prior to departure overseas.
The position is strictly voluntary but all costs
relating to training and overseas travel and living
are covered as part of the Fellowship.
In the past participants in the program have learned
from and contributed to projects to improve rural
water and sanitation services, develop agricultural
processing technologies, and build information
technology capacity. Placements will be predominately
in Africa and will be assigned once volunteers have
been selected based on language skills and other
aptitudes.
The goals of the program are threefold:
1. To create experienced development champions who
will work tirelessly to expose fellow chapter members
and members of the public to the challenges faced by
the billions of people around the world who live in
poverty,
2. To contribute to the next generation of committed
champions of human development who are passionate
about creating social change in both the private and
public sectors, and
3. To provide our partner agencies with “humble
entrepreneurs” who are able to fill specific
short-term niche roles within their projects.
*Mandatory Requirements:
While volunteers should be selected primarily on their
ability to achieve these goals there are also a number
or minimum requirements that must also be met to be
eligible to participate in the Junior Fellowship
program.
To be considered for a placement the candidate must be
meet the following requirements:
- The candidate must be a Canadian citizen or
permanent resident.
- The candidate must be a member of the chapter who
will be returning to school and is willing to assume a
formal or informal leadership role in the chapter in
the following year.
- The candidate must available to volunteer for the
entire period of the placement (Approximately May 1 to
Aug 31, 2006).
- The candidate must be at least 19 years of age as of
May 1st on the year of departure.
- The candidate must be able to attend the EWB
National Conference held the year of departure (Jan 18
to 22, 2006).
