This year, thye EMSAN/CEMC Day will revolve around two themes: Theme 1 Visions of the Future of Electroacoustic Music in Asia How will Electroacoustic Music evolve in Asia? Which trends, which hopes, which efforts are carried out by composers, performers, educators and institutions? How is the future different from what can be expected in other parts of the world? How does the strong and ancient cultural past of Asia plays a role in shaping the future? The presentations will discuss practical, theoretical or esthetical aspects of these visions of the future. The communications will later be published in the Electronic Proceedings of the EMSAN/CEMC Day. Theme 2 Projects of Publications on Electroacoustic Music in Asia EMSAN has been asked to supervise two publication projects. The first will be a book published in English in the United States by Electronic Music Foundation. The second will be an issue of a professional journal and will also be in English, and positive talks have been conducted with Contemporary Music Review (UK). Comprehensive texts on the growth and the trends of Electroacoustic Music in Asia would be extremely important: although the development of tthis music in other parts of the world has been rather well documented (namely Europe and North America), little has been written on Asian Electroacoustic Music. This book will gather chapters relative to each participant country. Two themes are envisioned: 1) An historical account of the development of Electroacoustic Music in each country of region, and 2) questions of esthetics, musical thought and musical techniques relevant to each country or region. The chapters will be published in English but could also be included in publications in their original languages. If necessary, they could be written in their original language before being provided to Electronic Music Foundation in English. Each country or region will have a correspondant who will be responsible for the local contributions. It is expected that the editorial structure will be defined during the meeting. The book is expected to appear in 2012 in the EMS Media book series of Electronic Music Foundation (New York). The contributions for the professional journal will be of a different nature. The will focus on particular issues such as musical works, composers or specific musical trends. Care will be taken to balance the contributions from the different countries and regions. The EMSAN/CEMC Day colloquium will take place during the Musicacoustica Festival week (26-30 Octobre 2009), Central Conservatory, Beijing, China. Participation is free. To present a paper, please send a title and a short abstract to: marc.battier@paris-sorbonne.fr (in English) For information on the Musicacoustica Festival, please write to: mungozhangruibo@gmail.com or xinyuan_yuanyuan@yahoo.com.cn We are looking forward to seeing you in Beijing for the Festival and the EMSAN/CEMC Day colloquium. Since the first call, talks have been held with Contemporary Music Review (UK) and they are interested in an EMSAN issue, which will be in addition to the book we have envisioned. However, lectures during the meeting can either be on the topic of future plublications ("Projects of Publications on Electroacoustic Music in Asia") or on the wider topic of "Visions of the Future of Electroacoustic Music in Asia". If you intend to present a paper, it is also time to send an abstract in English. I believe there will be a translation of the abstracts in Chinese, so if you can submit your abstract in both languages, that's even better. As was the case last year, the CEMC-EMSAN Day will take place on Octobre 28 during the exciting Musicacoustica festival, with its concerts, Master classes, and festive atmosphere. During the CEMC-EMSAN Day, a number of announcements will be made: they will find their way on the emsan-l list afterwards, of course. The EMSAN/CEMC Day colloquium will take place during the Musicacoustica Festival week (26-30 Octobre 2009), Central Conservatory, Beijing, China. Participation is free. The day will be divided as follows: 1) paper presentations, 20 minutes each. There are already eight presenters (Canada, China, France, Japan, Taiwan); An important panel session will follow, with additional participants (including Malaysia). We are still waiting for participants (especially from countries and regions not represented). It is during the panel discussion that the specifics of the publication projects will be discussed. In particular, we'll need to organize the structure for each country and region (who does what) for the book published by EMF Media (New York), and publications in other languages. We will also need to talk about the Contemporary Music Review issue, its contents and who will write articles. A more detailed agenda for this panel discussion will be sent later. Finally, the question raised by Ken Fields about the emsan.org domain (which has already been secured) needs to be addressed.
