The Archaeological Society of Alberta (ASA) needs you! We have a Casino
event coming up on November 7 and 8th and need to fill shifts from our
fantastic group of members. This is one of the best ways you can support
the public archaeology work we do as we stand to gain approximately
$70,000 over the two days we work at Cowboys Casino. The shifts are fun,
easy and a really great way to get to know other members of the ASA.

The ASA (Calgary Centre) is very proud of the steps we have taken recently
to increase public awareness of archaeology. A huge advantage to our
efforts has been the funding we have received from the Alberta Gaming and
Liquor Corporation (AGLC) through volunteering at our last Casino event.
In the past two years we have really been able to increase our activities,
including the publishing of a student workbook that assists youth in
understanding the archaeology of the Calgary region. This workbook has
been used in several outreach programs including Parks days, events with
Scouts Canada and classroom sessions. The funding from AGLC also has been
used to fund public programming components of sites such as Glenbow Ranch
and Cluny. In addition we have been able to top up our scholarship funds
and continue to support our exciting lecture series.

If you want to support these and other endeavours, volunteering at the
Casino event is one of the best ways to do that. Please contact
Frankie-Lou Nelligan at frankielouwho at gmail.com to sign up today.
