Chacmool Members,

 

First, we would like to welcome the new members who signed up on Friday at
the Meet & Greet. On that subject, thank you to all of you who came out to
the event! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Congratulations to
Aaron Rogers on winning the 50/50 as well! 

 

Chacmool is formally making a call for abstracts from students for next
year's 49th Annual Chacmool Archaeology Conference. By now many of you have
heard of the Chacmool Conference held every year that sees speakers from all
over the world come and talk at the University of Calgary. This year, the
topic is Sustainability and Archaeology. These topics are chosen by students
who then go on to be chairs of the organizing committee along with grad
students and faculty members who guide you and work with you. The role of
conference chair is a lot of work, but one that is rewarding on so many
levels. Most importantly, putting the position of conference chair/organizer
on any CV stands out immensely! So if this interests you, stop by our office
and submit a small 150 word abstract or even just to talk about the idea. We
can help you think of topics, or find some grad students and faculty members
that will be able to work with you. 

Abstracts should be submitted by November 1st and there will be a vote
hosted by Chacmool and its members to see which topic will be the next 49th
Annual Chacmool Conference in 2016. For information regarding this year's

A few of you asked about volunteering for the conference this year. Chacmool
members will have preferred volunteer positions over non-members and early
volunteer registration unlike previous years. We will have a list of
volunteer positions and times put up within the next week or two. The
conference dates are November 11th-14th during reading break at school.
