Melbourne, and now at the UofA, will give talk in the Philosophy
Colloquium series on Friday at 4pm. Please let me know if you're

Allen Hazen - "The Variable: A Metaphysical Inchnofossil"

Once upon a time there was a metaphysical or semantic debate about the
nature of variables: a debate largely forgotten by contemporary
philosophers.  It left traces, though:  fossilized footprints, as it
were, in the formation of mathematical logic.  Key words: Quine,
Russell, Fitch, Cauman.  The talk will be ABOUT technical matters, but
will not itself BE technical (no theorems proved!).
