This is a final notice to let you know about an important conference coming up at the end of this week, on January 25-26, 2019. It is called Digital Media at the Crossroads (”DM at X”) and it will take place at the University of Toronto. The program is fully described at the conference website, which is at http://www.digitalmediaatthecrossroads.ca.
This is the fifth annual DM at X conference and is sponsored by 38 educational and cultural organizations, including the Canadian Communications Association. The regular registration fee for the conference is $399 which covers the program materials and a buffet lunch. However, all CCA members qualify for the faculty rate of $99.
As you will see from the website, the program for the conference has been organized to be informative, wide-ranging and provocative. Following a review of revenues, employment and future trends in each sector of the digital media universe in Canada, individual panels will address the future of over-the-top video services, the impact of Google and Facebook News on print media, and changes in copyright policy. An expert from the European Union will provide an update on developments affecting local content creation in Europe. And there will be a “Town Hall” meeting with members of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review Panel, which is reviewing the federal legislation affecting the digital media sector.
There is an impressive list of speakers, all of whom are directly involved in the digital media business, whether as producers, regulators, entrepreneurs or academics. The photos and bios of all the speakers can be found here<http://www.digitalmediaatthecrossroads.ca/speakers.php>.
I highly recommend this conference to CCA members. If you are interested, you can become registered on the website, which is here<http://www.digitalmediaatthecrossroads.ca/>.
Happy new year!
