Message-ID: <00a501ccedba$372fc800$a58f5800$@ucalgary.ca> Hello everyone! My name is Aaron, and I'd like to let you know about an event that you can do with your club that'll make a huge impact. This year is the second year for the University of Calgary Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year, we had 330 people participate and raised $53000. Now, I know many of you are thinking "Ugh, I hate running!" Luckily, that's not what the Relay for Life is all about! The Relay for Life will be held in the Jack Simpson gym on March 31st, from 7pm to 7am. There are three ceremonies throughout the night to raise awareness and remember loved ones, and the rest of the night is dedicated to celebrating all the fundraising done for cancer research! There will be a dodge ball tournament, free dance lessons, probably those inflatable sumo suits, food, drinks, contests, karaoke, prizes, not to mention about 300 of your friends! This event is perfect for clubs- you can sign up as a team on our website. Currently the Step Forward club has the largest team signed up, at 18 members, and they've raised over $1000. I'd love to see your club on the list- the sooner the better! Of course, a good question is why should we raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society? Well, this is a disease that affects just about everybody. Chances are you know at least one person who's gone through cancer treatment. If you were close to that person, you know the effect it had on their life. This is a way for you to show them you support them, while still having a great time. I can tell you from first-hand experience that the Canadian Cancer Society makes a difference. I've got my story posted on my participant page at http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFL_AB_even_?px=4241749 &pg=personal&fr_id=11772 if you're interested. If you or your club wants to participate, we want you! Sign-up is easy, and online. You can create a team and anytime up until a week before the event, people can join it. The website is www.cancer.ca/relay , and when there go to Alberta, the "University of Calgary". The sooner you sign up, the better! There is a $15 registration fee, which covers the cost of running the event. All fundraising done goes directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to everyone! Feel free to copy any portion of this, and share it! If you have any questions about anything, don't hesitate to contact me at aaronstellys@gmail.com. If you are worried about the fundraising portion, don't be! We have some handy guides, and it's a lot easier than you'd think!
